Parade Information
January 2010
Happy New Year Everyone! It’s time to celebrate our Irish
heritage! This year Manhattan Irish Fest will be held on March 5th and 6th.
The parade will be held on Saturday the 6th, starting at 11am. The Irish Fest
Committee members and I would like to invite you to participate in this
time-honored tradition. The "Gathering of the Clans" is a parade that kicks off
the festivities for this fun filled day, and we would love to have your
organization, club, or family become a part of it. The Committee is asking for a
$25 donation from all entries with proceeds benefiting local organizations. Once
your application is in, you will receive more parade information as we approach
the date. So gather up your group, don your green, and join in the festivities!
Can’t wait to see you on the 6th!
Please keep in mind – even with our Irish heritage we must respect the law – open alcoholic beverages are not allowed in the parade. Thanks!
Questions regarding the parade or form can be directed to Bridget Forsythe @ 815.212.1762 or via email:

This year's selection for Grand Marshalls are Noreen Bormet and Karleen Kendall. As part of a girl scout project in the mid-1990's these local heroes began the Manhattan Food Pantry, operating from donations by individuals to feed the hungry in the Manhattan Area. When the task became too much for their basements, they moved into the Village's unused space next to the Village hall. They soon outgrew the space allotment, and now host the Food Pantry in the Manhattan Township Garage at Eastern Ave and Smith Road. Since the great hunger of the 1840's, the Irish have always known what it means to be hungry, and hold soft sopts in our hearts for those who help solve that problem. Congratulations!
