The Manhattan Irish Fest Committee congratulates the 2010 Winners:

Manhattan Irish Fest offers three scholarships to the youth of the area, paid from the proceeds of the festival:

King & Queen Scholarships

Awarded directly by the festival scholarship committee, the two $ 1000.00 scholarships are presented to two residents of Manhattan who are either currently enrolled in college or are seniors in High School.

The winners of the scholarship must submit an essay before February 22, be in the Parade, Appear at the Friday Night Awards ceremony in the Entertainment Tent, and attend the Parade and Awards Ceremony on Saturday..

Eligibility Requirements:      

bulletMust be a high school senior or college student from the Manhattan Grade School District and/or Manhattan Township (17-21 years old).
bulletMust be available March 5th & 6 (parade and introduction)
bulletMust have a high school or college cumulative GPA of 2.75 or better.
bulletMust have two letters of recommendations from individuals not related to the applicant
bulletMust demonstrate volunteerism through participation in community service and activities
bulletMust demonstrate participation in athletics or club activities (inside or outside school)

Terms:     

bullet$1,000 scholarships will be available for a female and male high school senior who reside in the Manhattan Grade School District and/or Manhattan township. The recipient is advised to be available for the award presentation at the festival on March 6th (evening) and March 7th (parade 11am, ceremony 1pm). The scholarship is to be used for books and other school related expenses.  The above terms may be subject to change.

bulletA one-page typed letter about yourself and your accomplishments.  Include future plans, volunteerism and any clubs or athletics that you were involved with while in high school.
bulletHigh School or College transcripts.
bulletTwo Non-Family Letters of recommendation

2010 Timeline :

bulletJanuary 27, 2010- Applications available at Berkot's, Farmer's Insurance, Ace and the Village of Manhattan.
bulletFebruary 22 2010 - Applications and recommendations due to Irish Fest Committee
bulletFebruary 28th 2010 - Notification to the Recipients
bulletMarch 6 & 7 2010 - Awarded at the festival.

Manhattan Chamber of Commerce Scholarship

A sum of $ 500.00 will be given to the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce to augment its own scholarship program.  Given to the Chamber in appreciation for starting Manhattan Irish Fest, potential candidates should contact the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce directly for details on qualifications.

The Winners

When the Irish American Society of County Will began running the festival in 2005, the first big change done by the organization was to introduce a scholarship for the "King and Queen of the Fest".  Somewhat unique, as it is offered to High School Seniors as well as current college students, the Scholarships have been won by the Following outstanding individuals.
